Hi. I'm Mike Wachs, and I have some ideas for Pacific Grove.

I bet you do, too.

Over the next few months, I’ll be working hard to get to know you and your vision for Pacific Grove.

By November 8th, I hope to have earned your support and vote in order to become your next mayor.

About

We're new here,
but this is home.

My wife Stephanie and I moved to Monterey Bay in 2020 with our two hilarious and quite cute kids, Iris and Harry. It was a big journey from Houston, Texas in a big rented RV during the first summer of COVID, but as soon as we got to the Peninsula we knew we were in the right place.

Once we moved to town, we were immediately welcomed by the warmest community imaginable and our daughter found an amazing group of friends (plus, softball team!). We are so fortunate and grateful to be here.

Our lives are full of kids and dogs and work and never-ending house repairs, but I want to serve Pacific Grove because this is home. This is where our kids will be growing up. This is where I’ll grow old. And this is where I want to see the most beautiful place on earth—Pacific Grove—become even more incredible.

Let’s toss around ideas, try new things, and admit if they don’t work out how we had hoped. Let’s keep trying to do better.

I know we can do it. But we need to do it together.

Issues

What I Will Fight For

Economy

When we buy local, Our local businesses and organizations need tools, support, and resources to successfully compete on the same level as tech giants and be resilient for the future.

Ecology

We have a water problem.We need to not only protect water—but also use it more thoughtfully, recycle more of it, and work with leaders from around the county and state to find new solutions.

Housing

In two years, the median sales price for Pacific Grove has gone up a truly staggering 88%. We need to encourage thoughtful, beautiful housing to create a balanced market for buyers and renters to live here comfortably.

Sustainability

We all want Pacific Grove to continue to be special. That means we need sustainable transportation and infrastructure, bike accessibility, local food initiatives, modified zoning, and more butterfly renewal projects.

Recreation

Adults, teens, and children all need more programs to fully enjoy the trove of treasures we have and make our community stronger and even more safe.

Innovation

Just like the PG Skatepark Project, listening to our community can be our best source for solutions: Municipal WiFi, vacant building reuse, "people resource and tool" library, a food & wine festival...let's brainstorm together, keep the best of what we have, and tackle issues head-on.

Honestly, probably not. And that’s okay! That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try new things in order to remain a vibrant place to live and an attractive place to visit.
